Electrical Engineer and Maintenance Supervisor
2005 - 2009

      Supervised up to 17 UAW Skilled Tradesmen, covering an entire 6-cylinder engine job. Provided production support, rapid response breakdown coverage, technical trouble shooting, problem solving, and planned maintenance implementation. Completed numerous equipment installations, projects, and upgrades on extremely complicated electrical and mechanical machinery.
      Maintained the up-time of equipment, and the morale of co-workers, during a period of rapidly declining production schedules, elimination of resources, and severe cost constraints. As a primary decision maker on 2nd shift routinely provided highly independent and effective problem-solving, decision making, and resourcefulness, with a minimum of support and resources.
      Very effective communicator, both to supervised employees, and counterparts on the opposite shift. Wrote detailed technical summaries for end-of-shift reports, utilized voice mail, email, and the Maximo Maintenance Planning System. Provided safety and technical training.

Electrical Engineer - New and Major Projects Group - GMPT    2003 - 2005
      Launch Team Member for a new 6 cylinder engine program. Project management and electrical engineering from initial run-offs at OEM facilities, through installation by outside contractors, start-up, commissioning, and final acceptance for high volume production.
      Equipment included robots, transfer lines, automation for parts handling and washing, honing, testing and assembly machines, and coolant and filter systems from Germany, France, and the USA. Control systems included Siemens, General Electric, Modicon/Schneider and Indramat.

Electrical Engineer and /or Maintenance Supervisor - GMPT   1993 - 2003
      Numerous positions in a demanding, high volume production environment at the world’s largest automotive engine plant. Worked in 6 Business Teams, and over 20 different areas.

  • Led 20 UAW Skilled Trades Construction Workers to complete a major construction project ahead of schedule and under budget – the installation of the new engine line in a “Greenfield Facility”.
  • Delivered daily safety talks, including : Lock-Out, Fall Hazard Prevention, Personal Protective Equipment, Confined Space, Arc Flash Safety, Rigging and Fork Truck Operation.
  • Contributed to greatly increased uptime of several new, and very complex, Transfer Machines.
  • Supervised up to 30 UAW Skilled Tradesmen in 3 very large areas. Production support, breakdown coverage, and planned maintenance. Completed large equipment installations, upgrades, and conversions in departments with very high volume, but aging equipment.
  • Designed, installed, improved dozens pieces of equipment for improved reliability and performance.

Sales Engineer 1989 -1991
      Sold AC Variable Frequency Inverter Drive systems for energy conservation, and process control. Specialized in the municipal water and waste-water industries.
      Extensive sales calls and technical presentations to consulting engineers, OEMs, contractors, and end-users. Developed sales leads, wrote and delivered technical proposals and price quotations, negotiated price, terms and conditions. Built a team for strategic market penetration; sold through manufacturer’s representative network, and by direct bidding on jobs.

Systems Sales Application Engineer 1987 - 1989
      Project manger and technical expert for custom engineered industrial control systems.
      Systems typically included over a dozen DC drives and/or AC inverters, and PLC or computerized controls. Developed and delivered technical proposals, price quotations, profitability analysis and coordination of internal services. Frequent nationwide travel. Conducted sales calls and seminars in Canada, Germany, Taiwan, Ukraine and Turkey.
      Closed the sale of several large jobs, including an international job worth over $500,000.

Electrical Project Engineer
      Complete project management. Appropriation writing and autonomy in handling workload which typically included concurrent involvement in several projects over $100,000. Complete design of control systems for factory automation, including component selection, and writing PLC software. Converted machinery from relay to PLC control, including conveyors, bias cutters, and tire curing machines. Supervised installation and machine start-up. Emergency breakdown and crisis resolution.

Independent Consultant Buffalo, New York also Kyiv and Lviv, Ukraine  1991 - 1993
      Organized a series of trading, investment, and consulting projects. Consulting work in finance and banking in Ukraine included fact finding missions, research reports, proposals, representation at business and educational conferences. Project work for the investment bank, Lehman Brothers International, included organizing presentations and negotiations in New York, Toronto and Kyiv. Translated a comprehensive proposal for government advisory services, privatization, debt restructuring and generating foreign investment. Presented to Ukrainian parliamentarians, cabinet ministers, and both government and private bankers. Promoted several Ukrainian companies. Made sales calls for several U.S.and Canadian firms. Presented proposals for oil and gas secondary recovery technology to Ukrainian officials.

UHD Federal Credit Union Buffalo, New York  1990-1991
      Credit Officer and Interim General Manager Member of the Credit Committee, and eventual Interim General Manager of a credit union with $6.5 million in assets. Supervised operations with a staff of six. Completely revised financial planning and reporting. Prepared very detailed annual budget, including a pro forma Balance Sheet and Income Statement, and monthly variance reports.
      Wrote Asset-Liability Funds Management Policy including capital goals, and analysis of interest rate spread and liquidity gap. Wrote a new Loan Policy, and implemented a real estate lending program in compliance with secondary market standards. Wrote Delinquent Loan Control Policy and implemented a program which cut delinquencies by 66%. As a Credit Officer made decisions on all credit issues including loan approval, with annual loan production of over $1 million. Prepared Loan Classification and analysis of Allowance for Loan Loss Account. Disposed of foreclosed property.
